Is it really free?

Yes. The stations broadcast free online and this site links to their streams. There is no account and nothing to install.

Why do some stations open in a new tab?

A handful of stations only offer an unencrypted stream on a port our relay cannot reach. Browsers refuse to play unencrypted audio inside a secure page, but opening the stream in its own tab still works.

Can I listen on a phone?
